Backpacking and Canoeing
people backpackingExperience wilderness on an Underway Outdoor Adventure backpacking trip. Enjoy the sights and sounds of the backcountry as you hike through the natural areas of Touch of Nature, Giant City State Park, Shawnee National Forest, and Crab Orchard National Wildlife Refuge. Or you could find your group quietly gliding across the waters of a southern Illinois lake or river. Half day to multiple day trips are available.


Orienteering
People planning and reading a mapFamiliarize yourself with the basics of land navigation while having lots of fun! Learn how to take a bearing with a compass. Determine distance and terrain traits with a topographical map. Can you get yourself and your group to the end of the predetermined course? Challenge yourself!




Caving
Exploring a CaveCome explore one of Southern Illinois magnificent caves! Discover how caves are formed and learn how this unique and fragile environment is home to a diverse array of creatures. Programs can range from half day adventures to full day adventures.

Survival Skills

Tired of all those reality TV shows? If you are a person who enjoys the outdoors and want to learn what it takes to survive a real wilderness situation, we have a course for you. The Underway Outdoor Adventure Program offers survival workshops in which you will learn everything you need to know about shelter, water, fire, food, tracking, nature observation, and primitive tools. Workshops can be tailored to your needs.
