How do we prevent aberrant behavior?
  • Placement - Based on the information provided by parents and/or caregivers, we place children in cabins with campers who are similar to them in age and common interests.
  • Rules - The entire camp (staff AND campers) is expected to follow Camp Rules. These may include following directions, respecting others, and asking for help when needed.
  • Trained Staff - Our staff are trained to spot and stop early signs of conflict such as name-calling, cliques, bullying, pranks, or acts of retaliation.

  • Okay, so what if the behaviors sneak in anyway?
  • Positive Reinforcement - Staff is trained to differentially reinforce appropriate behavior. This alone will increase the amount of appropriate behaviors and, in turn, decrease inappropriate behaviors.
  • Negative Reinforcement - Procedures such as Time-Out (removal of child from reinforcing activity and Response Cost (removal of bonus reinforces) are utilized throughout the summer.
  • WE DO NOT USE PUNISHMENT PROCEDURES.
