Leif Faber
Community Worker -- Spectrum Wilderness

Drawn to the outdoors as a youngster, Leif discovered rock-climbing and mountaineering in high school as a member of a High-Adventure Explorer's Scout Post. Instantly hooked, Leif has been developing his skills and seeking out adventure in high, wild places for more than fifteen years.

Leif studied English at SIUC while continuing to pursue his love of the outdoors by utilizing the abundant recreational opportunities afforded by the Shawnee National Forest. Breaks from school typically found Leif traveling throughout the country to climb in new and varied areas such as the Cascade Range of Washington, the Canyonlands of the Desert Southwest, the Colorado Rockies, and the Tetons of Wyoming. During this time he broadened his skills to include a wide spectrum of outdoor activities such as orienteering, ice-climbing, glacier travel, canoeing, and backcontry telemark ski-touring.
After earning his undergraduate degree, Leif was accepted to the Japanese English Teacher Program as an English instructor in Japan. This gave him the opportunity to not only develop his Japanese language skills and teach, but to also climb throughout Japan and other areas in Asia such as Thailand, South Korea and Khyrgiztan.

While in Japan, Leif had the opportunity to work as a part-time backcountry ski-guide, and this experience showed him the possibility of combining his passion for teaching with his passion for the outdoors. Touch of Nature gives Leif the opportunity to combine his two passions on a full time basis.
